This week, the United Kingdom will play host to a global artificial intelligence (AI) summit, with tech mogul Elon Musk on the guest list. The UK’s Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, has disclosed his intentions to conduct a live interview with Musk following the summit at Bletchley Park on Thursday. The summit’s agenda is to amalgamate AI specialists and world leaders to deliberate on the potential hazards posed by artificial intelligence.

High-profile attendees include Kamala Harris, the US Vice-President, and Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission. Moreover, insiders suggest that Sam Altman from Open AI and Nick Clegg from Meta are also set to participate, alongside a multitude of other tech industry leaders. Yoshua Bengio, often referred to as one of the godfathers of AI, has verified his attendance to the BBC.

Prime Minister Sunak made his announcement of a live conversation with Musk via a post on X, previously known as Twitter. He wrote, “In conversation with Elon Musk. After the AI Safety Summit. Thursday night on X.”

The recent progress in AI has been lauded as revolutionary, yet there are concerns about potential dangers. Some even consider it a threat to humanity, pointing to possible mass unemployment and the amplification of disinformation. In response to this, President Joe Biden signed an executive order on Monday mandating AI developers to disclose their safety results to the US government.

Elon Musk, however, might advocate for more stringent measures. Earlier in March, he endorsed an open letter advocating a halt to “Giant AI Experiments”. When speaking to the BBC in April, Musk disclosed his decade-long concerns about AI safety. He suggested the formation of a regulatory body to oversee AI and ensure it doesn’t pose any public danger.

In addition to this, Musk has been vocal about his reservations regarding the data AI businesses use to train chatbots. These software entities learn human interaction styles by analysing large volumes of data from various sources, thus enhancing their knowledge and interactive capabilities.
