A major operation is underway in Sydney’s CBD, with a mass evacuation of office workers and police.
Sometime after 1 p.m. on Wednesday, police stormed the busy office tower on Elizabeth Street.
The building would house the offices of NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb and other police forces.
Photos from the scene show multiple police vehicles parked on the busy street as officers guarded the entrances and exits of the cordoned off building.
The federal police and the riot police are also present.
A paramedic was seen wheeling into the building with a stretcher.
“Huge numbers of police cars (marked and unmarked), police bicycles and officers on foot responding to what appeared to be an incident on Elizabeth St in Sydney’s CBD,” one man posted on X.
Another said the entire building was on lockdown.
“Massive police operation in Sydney CBD blocks entire building,” he wrote.
NSW Police have confirmed an operation is still taking place but could not provide further details.
“There is no threat to the public,” a spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.
Several emergency services responded to the incident.
“I saw about five or six police cars,” a nearby hotel worker told Daily Mail Australia.
“We heard from the news that a building had been closed off.”
A supermarket owner added: ‘We saw some police cars driving down the street.’
‘An ambulance also came by’
The police operation takes place not far from where a lawyer was reportedly shot in his ninth-floor office last week.
