There was drama at County Hall after Members of Parliament (MPs) struggled to understand Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) nominee Deborah Mlongo Barasa’s net worth.
Mlongo who had appeared before the Parliament Committee on Appointments to defend her nomination as Health CS had stated that her net worth accumulating to Ksh455 million was a combination of her’s and her husband’s net worth.
“My net worth is a combination of mine and my husband’s and it’s worth 455,845,320,” she said amid chatters from the MPs.
Immediate reactions poured in from the MPs who struggled to decrypt her statement, inaudible murmurs could be heard from the vicinity as the lawmakers wondered what the cabinet nominee meant.
Saboti MP Caleb Amisi asked the committee chair Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to divide the indicated amount into two in an attempt to elucidate her exact net worth that ought to be indicated, he was however interrupted by Mishi Mboko who disagreed saying it was not necessary.
“Because this is a house of record, I propose you divide it into two…” MP Amisi said before he was immediately interrupted by Mishi Mboko who said; “There is no need to do that.”
Speaker Wetang’ula interjected but the speaker jestfully objected saying; “Don’t break families..if there is a dispute, the courts will decide.”
