Director Trevor recently opened up about how public scrutiny affected his relationship with ex-girlfriend YouTuber Mungai Eve. In an interview with Oga Obinna, he admitted that harsh criticism from media personality Andrew Kibe made him regret going public with their relationship.
Trevor and Mungai Eve were once one of the most talked-about couples in the Kenyan social media scene. However, their relationship came under intense public scrutiny, particularly from Andrew Kibe, known for his controversial and often unfiltered commentary.
Trevor admitted that Kibe’s negative remarks impacted him, making him question whether going public with their relationship was the right decision.
“At some point, yes, I did feel that way, but in life, you can not choose what comes with it,” Trevor said.
He explained that while he tried to stay strong, Kibe’s criticism often left him feeling vulnerable. “Kibe’s criticism of my relationship really affected me. He would run my story without knowing the facts. At least Edgar Obare used to ask for my side of the story,” Trevor noted.
Kibe’s remarks were particularly biting, as he often mocked Trevor and Mungai Eve in his videos. In one instance, Kibe referred to Trevor as a “walking pleasure device” and accused Mungai Eve of disrespecting him in their YouTube videos.
“When you’re behind the camera, stay there. He is trying to shine, but he is a walking dildo, so she can’t even allow him to talk,” Kibe said in one of his critiques.
Such criticism made Trevor regret the decision to go public with their relationship. He shared that people often judged him without considering both sides of the story, which strained their relationship.
“At some point, you will be affected no matter what, but we got used to it,” Trevor said.
Kibe, in his harsh critique, even advised the couple to keep their personal lives out of the public eye, saying, “Keep your sh!t private, so that if you break up, you can handle it.”
Trevor announced his breakup with Mungai Eve in February 2024, sharing that they had kept the split private for a while to protect their brand.
He mentioned that, going forward, he intends to keep future relationships more private to avoid the same problems.
Despite the pain caused by the criticism, Trevor has since moved on and is now in a new relationship with Yvonne Kiki, who left her job to support his dreams.
