Officers drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have nabbed bhang estimated to have a street value of Ksh900,000 in Nairobi.
In a statement on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, the DCI said two suspects were arrested with the contraband after alighting from a bus.
“Two suspects, Clinton Ndede and Kelvin Sibukhu were arrested earlier today at a bus station in Nairobi CBD after they were found with 17 bales of bhang approximated at Sh990,000 in street value,” the DCI revealed.
The sleuths revealed that the duo had boarded a bus from Busia County and had arrived in the city before anti-narcotic police officers cornered them.
“The two were nabbed moments after disembarking from a Guardian bus from Budalangi, Busia County just before they boarded a super metro shuttle en route to Kamulu where they reside,” the statement read.
Police officers who conducted a search in their bags found 17 bales of bhang weighing 34kgs in total.
War on bhang
The bust comes just a month after detectives recovered bhang worth Ksh6.2 million in a house in Nairobi on May 27, 2024, following a joint operation with the sleuths.
“The seizure weighing 205kg estimated at a street value of Sh6.2 million was processed and marked as exhibit, alongside a Toyota Noah Reg. No. KBL 186E believed to be a proceed of the illegal trade,” the sleuths said.
During the raid in Komarock Phase II Estate, detectives managed to arrest the owner of the house identified as Mohamed Kala while his suspected accomplices fled.
“Pursuit of Kala’s accomplices is underway as he fervently prays for a route back to liberty,” DCI noted.
146kg bhang nabbed
On Monday, July 8, 2024, detectives arrested a 42-year-old man found trafficking 146kg of bhang along the Kisii-Migori Highway.
Police had earlier erected a roadblock at the Iyabe Bomokora area but the driver of the Prado and its occupants sped past it, leading to a hot pursuit by the sleuths.
The said vehicle veered off the road and landed in a ditch, leading to the arrest of its occupants as the driver exited the car and scampered into a nearby bush.
“Not so lucky though for Collins Otieno, who was cornered and helped to a police car alongside six sacks of bhang that were found stashed in their vehicle. A reflective motor vehicle plate with the number KDL 841X was also found in a carrier bag,” police said.
