Da’Vine Joy Randolph has revealed she was thrilled to star alongside Meryl Streep in the upcoming series Only Murders In The Building.

Created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman, the Hulu series follows three strangers who bond over their shared interest in true crime podcasts.

Da’Vine, 37, stars as Detective Williams in the comedy-mystery series and she was thrilled to arrest Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep in the latest series.

Da’Vine appeared on an episode of the Graham Norton Show that aired Friday and spoke about working with the legendary actress.

‘When I found out she was going to be in it, I begged and said, ‘Please, God, I just want one scene with her,’ and it happened. I can arrest her! She’s so amazing.’

Da’Vine Joy Randolph, 37, revealed she was excited to “arrest” Meryl Streep, 74, while discussing working with the legendary actress during an episode of The Graham Norton Show on Friday

In the star’s latest role, she plays Mary Lamb Alexander Payne’s new comedy The Holdover.

About the role, she said, “I’m from Philadelphia and I spent a lot of time in New York, so I had to have a dialect coach.

“I had to work on finding not just a Boston accent, but an accent from the ’60s and ’70s, and that of an African American. It was hard, so I listened to a lot of interviews, especially Donna Summer’s.”

Still, it looks like the actress got the accent after she took home the Best Supporting Actress award at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards on Sunday.

Da’Vine gave a shout-out to the “incredible” women in her life as she accepted the award and was greeted by cheers from A-list attendees as she took the stage at The Barker Hanger in Santa Monica.

Holding the award in the crook of her arm, the star pulled out a piece of paper with a speech she had written down shortly before the ceremony.

At one point, she shined a spotlight on the women in her life who helped her get to where she is today. “To play a woman, that’s so much to see herself as a gift.”

“And I want to take a moment to thank the incredible women in my life who have made me the artist I am today.”

Da’Vine continued, “I thank my mother for teaching me that hard work and persistence pay off.”

“My Aunt Shirley, who taught me to be wonderful. My Aunt Gwenny, for teaching me how to tell the perfect joke.”

‘Thank you to the teachers who have guided me over the years, and especially to the women in the industry who have fiercely supported me. Thank you so much!’

Also during her speech, Da’Vine took time to pay tribute to the other women nominated in the same category, including Julianne Moore, Emily Blunt, Danielle Brooks and America Ferrera.

“To my fellow nominees, you have continually worked to push the boundaries of what this medium has to offer. And I am so honored to be considered among you.”

Da’Vine also took home the coveted first win of the night at the Golden Globes in the Female Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for her work in The Holdovers.

The Graham Norton Show, BBC One, Friday 19 January 10.40pm. Also available on BBC iPlayer.
