David has made several visits to Chelsea Pensioners over the years and has been a long-time supporter of their charity initiative.

The Royal Hospital Chelsea is home to the iconic Chelsea Pensioners, all retired soldiers of the British Army.

The sportsman is a long-time fan of pie, mash and jellied eel and often returns to his old hometown to visit Tony’s Pie & Mash shop in Waltham Abbey, a short drive from his birthplace in Leytonstone.

In 2021, David shared a meal of pie, mash and jellied eel with the Chelsea Pensioners after promising to return for the traditional Cockney meal.

In heartwarming photos shared on Facebook, David was seen posing with a pint and sitting down for a meal with residents at London’s Royal Hospital Chelsea.

David stayed true to his promise after telling Chelsea boarder Ted Heath the year before that he would be visiting again to share the East End dish, with the star adding that it was ‘always such a privilege to be in to be their company’.

David happily sat down for the meal and chatted with the Pensioners, dressed to the nines in a black suit and tie.

The Royal Hospital Chelsea is a retirement home and nursing home for around 300 British Army veterans.
