Dating experts reveal the item that will make people reject you if they spot it in your profile photo – so, are YOU at risk of losing matches?

New research suggests that your smoking habits could be the real reason you’re not getting hundreds of matches on dating apps.

Haypp surveyed 2,000 people in Britain about their biggest turn-off when it comes to finding potential romance online.

The results showed that almost two-thirds of Brits would swipe left on a potential partner if they smoked – and that’s not good news for vapers either.

According to the findings, 54 percent would immediately cut off a single if their dating profile contained photos of themselves holding a vape.

But it’s good news for divorced people looking for a date, as 80 percent of respondents like to date a partner who has been married before.

According to USAround 6.4 million Brits take up smoking, but new research shows it’s one of the biggest turn-offs to dating, which could explain the high rejection rate.

While singles tend to reject smokers, body shape was much less of an issue.

The survey found that a significant 70 percent of participants would not judge a potential partner based on their height or weight.

When it comes to body modifications, 33 percent would prefer their future partners not to have piercings or tattoos, while two-thirds were unfazed by these features.

British adults were also open to dating people who have children from a previous relationship, with only one in three claiming they would reject someone if they already had a child.

Markus Lindblad from Haypp said: ‘Dating can be a difficult field and it’s interesting to see what qualities we’re a little ashamed or shy about.

‘It’s no surprise to see that bad habits like smoking are something we don’t find attractive and while vaping is a much better choice for your health, it seems that it still has negative consequences for the success of your dating app.

“Nicotine patches may be an option for a smoker or vape user who wants to increase their right swipe potential while using a harmful nicotine product.”

Haypp also surveyed singles about the qualities they were likely to hide from potential partners.

They found that Brits are most likely to hide their weight, employment status if unemployed, and their future family plans on online dating profiles.

About 21 percent would hide each of these characteristics because they are too personal.

Other traits that people often hide include whether or not they have had the Covid vaccine, religious beliefs and political views.

It comes after British dating app Finding the One surveyed 1,500 people about their views on astrology and romance.

Top 10 things people hide from their online dating apps

1. Weight

2. Being unemployed

3. Family plans

4. That they smoke

5. That they vape

6. Gender identity

7. Political views

8. Sexuality

9. Status of the Covid vaccine

10. Dislikes a potential partner

The results show that one in four daters would immediately reject potential dates based on their birthday — and that wasn’t good news if you’re a fire sign.

According to the findings, 18 percent of singles would immediately cut off an Aries single, which drops to 15 percent for Sagittarius and 13 percent for Leos.

But for those looking to increase their chances of getting a date, an optimistic view of astrology can help secure a partner, as 59 percent of women find men attractive if they have an interest in astrology – unlike skeptics.

Carly, 31, from Bristol, who took part in the study, said: ‘I have yet to meet an Aries who isn’t brutally blunt, and as a particularly sensitive Pisces I actively try to avoid that – it just makes sense to swipe left.

“When I go out with signs considered compatible with my own, there is a natural flow and understanding that makes things feel effortless when we meet.”

While daters tend to avoid the signs of Aries, Sagittarius, and Leo, Pisces are in luck: Those born between February 19 and March 20 are the least likely to be rejected based on their zodiac sign.

Lizzie, a 33-year-old singleton from Cornwall who is currently on the waiting list for the app, has recently become a follower of astrology.

She said, “Granted, astrology has played a pretty big role in my dating decisions, especially recently.

‘I was a complete skeptic, but during the pandemic I found myself – like everyone else, I think – with some extra time on my hands and decided to read about it. Plus, being single and alone during lockdown didn’t help.

“I wouldn’t say I completely rely on zodiac signs, but I just don’t think we should dismiss it completely.”

‘After reading the character traits for each zodiac, I looked at where some of my friends and exes fall – the descriptions really hit the nail on the head.

“And since my love life is lacking right now, I’m willing to try anything.”

But while the research shows that women prefer men with an interest in astrology, 65% of men find women who love zodiac signs a total turn-off.
