If you are a fan of social media sites and especially TikTok, you might have come across this video of a famous Kikuyu secular artist saying that Rigathi Gachagua told people not to listen to his songs.

This artist called Kigia Wa Esther said that at that time Gachagua who is now the deputy President of Kenya was a District Officer who was in charge of the Limulu area in Kiambu.

He said that he released a song called “Reke Tumanwo” meaning let’s part and after releasing this song, Gachagua warned people not to listen to or play that song because its message was against President Moi’s government.

Kigia said that even after Gachagua warned people not to listen to or play that song and his other songs, people continued to buy his cassettes and at that time his song become a hit and all people loved it to the point Rigathi could not control or forbid people from listening to it.
