Transport Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has called on the government to expedite mandatory lifestyle audits for public servants and state officers.
Speaking on Saturday, July 6, 2024, the CS stated that a law for lifestyle audit should be passed, to ensure that public servants undergo yearly lifestyle audits to help curb corruption.
“I think its important as a country, tusiongee tu maneno kwa mdomo, tumesema sasa mambo ya harambee kwa sababu inaeza ingiza corruption tueke kando, nataka pia tukubaliane, kuliko tuongee tu kwa mdomo, why don’t we pass a law in Kenya for lifestyle audit so that every one year after office we can do a lifestyle audit for every person who is holding public office ndio isikue Kipchumba leo amevaa kiatu gani…ikue an orderly public position as a country where everybody goes through a same system,” he said.
The CS also called for yearly performance audits on all public servants particularly CSs and their dockets to ensure that they are serving Kenyans.
Speaking on the performance of his docket, the CS emphasized that his team has achieved its goals within the last two years and he is ready to account for all the time he has spent at his office and subsequently prove to Kenyans what the government has achieved since it took office.
“Tunafaa kushukuru rais because jana alijipeleka mpaka pale X, wale walikua wanaongea sana wakatoroka wakasema huyu amefika, mimi Kipchumba niko tayari kufika hapo kesho. Inafaa kila mwaka mawaziri wote na wizara yao, wapelekwe kwa national discussion na kila mtu alete report card yake kila mwaka aonyeshe amefanyia nini Kenya kwa ile report card wizara inasimama,” he stated.
“I have said without fear of contradiction, as a minister of transport, we have done a fantastic job for the last two years and I’m ready mi nimeambia hao watu wa X, Y na Z, I am ready to account for every second that I got to my office at 6 in the morning and leave at 10 in the evening. I am ready to give an account of what this government has done in the last two years in my ministry and it should be the tradition, tunafaa kushukuru. Tusiposema hii maneno propaganda inashika.”
