Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has condoled with the families of those affected by the collapse of a seven-storey building in Kahawa West area, Nairobi.
In his statement, Babu expressed his support for the families of the victims and wished a quick recovery to those injured in the unfortunate incident.
Additionally, Babu weighed in on the county’s involvement in the rising cases of buildings collapsing in Nairobi.
The MP noted that the County Government of Nairobi must take up its role to enforce appropriate building standards to ensure the safety of Kenyans.
He also implored the county government to intervene and swiftly address the root cause of the rampant cases of buildings collapsing to protect people from future tragedies.
“I strongly condemn any form of corruption and negligence that may have contributed to this disaster. The lives of Kenyans are precious, and no one should have to live in fear of such preventable tragedies.
“It is high time that the authorities take decisive action against those responsible for the systemic failures in our construction industry. The safety of Nairobi residents must be prioritized above profit or political expediency. May the departed rest in peace, and may their families find comfort in this difficult time,” he said.
