It is one of the most exciting nights of the year for British television, and Coronation Street star Maureen Lipman has revealed the night will be extra special for her. 

Love seems to be in the air for the actress, 77, who has revealed she will be bringing a date to the National Television Awards next week. 

Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Sunday Express she said: ‘I’m going with my gentleman friend David.’ 

Fingers crossed it will be a night of celebrations for the soap star who plays Evelyn Plummer in the ITV soap.

Maureen is nominated for best serial drama performance for her role on the cobbles and her beau David will be joining her for the event.

Discussing finding love again at 77, the star was overjoyed to be sharing life with a partner. 

She said: ‘It’s a gift for all concerned. It’s a gift and he’s been very nice. I’ve met some nice men in my life, some really interesting men, and we will see where it goes.’

Dame Maureen was married to playwright Jack Rosenthal until his death in 2004 and the two share two children, Amy and Adam. 

She then had a 13-year relationship with computer expert Guido Castro, who died in 2021.

Yet it seems the star has found love once more as she joked about finding a new dress for the event at London’s O2 arena.

Maureen and her co-star Charlotte Jordan, 28, who plays Daisy Midgeley, are both competing in the same category at the NTAs. 

Talking about how she will react if she doesn’t win she said: ‘It’s time for a new face really, isn’t it? I’m a good enough actress to put on a brave face when someone else’s name is called.’

The star also joked about how her granddaughter, Ava, 11, looks up to her as a role model and views her as an elderly ‘it’ girl.

Aside from her time in Weatherfield, Maureen is also staging a fundraising event for Manchester’s Hope Mill Theatre which is under threat of being closed down. 

Enlisting the help of many of her co-stars the actress is dedicated to fighting to keep the venue open.

She will present A Celebration of Music Hall at the theatre on October 1 to raise cash for the venue.

Maureen revealed she is looking forward to the event and seeing her Corrie cast trying their hand at a bit of musical theatre.
