Coronation Street chaos as the cast are forced to abandon the set during filming due to severe weather conditions

Coronation Street was thrown into chaos this week as the cast were forced to abandon the set due to the severe weather conditions.

Actress Samia Longchambon, 41, who plays Maria Connor, took to Instagram to share a clip of herself leaving the show’s set during filming, declaring they’d been ‘rained off’.

As she walked down the famous street, she panned the camera over her shoulder to show the almost abandoned, rain-soaked set.

Huddling under a large red umbrella and wearing a cosy coat, Samia penned: ‘Rained off on the cobbles this morning… great start to a Monday.’

It is not known how long the cast were forced to remain off set or which scenes were affected.

Meanwhile, Samia’s co-star Colson Smith, who plays Craig Tinker, seemingly regretted his choice of summer clothing as he arrived on set this week.

Sharing a snap of himself donning shorts and yellow sliders, Colson wrote: ‘I almost had to go into the winter wardrobe this morning’, alongside a frozen emoji.

Thunderstorms and heavy rain have battered the country this week, forcing Exeter Airport to close and trapping cars on flooded roads.

On Tuesday, the Met Office issued fresh weather warnings with more torrential downpours and flooding expected across Britain, with commuters facing travel chaos.

The forecaster issued a yellow warning for Tuesday and Wednesday, after more than a month’s worth of rain fell within 24 hours on Sunday – bringing the country’s record breaking heatwave to an end.

Meanwhile, there’s turmoil set for Weatherfield’s residents as the Rovers Return faces an uncertain future.

In upcoming scenes, Stephen tells Jenny that he wants to take her on holiday to Thailand to get away from everything.

But when the Waterford’s Manager arrives to break the news that they’re closing the Rovers for an extensive refurbishment and their contracts have been terminated with immediate effect Jenny and the staff are thrown into a spin.

Adam insists there’s a case for unfair dismissal but when DS Swain calls to tell Jenny they now have proof that neither Leo nor Teddy visited Canada her mind goes elsewhere.

Jenny and Stephen move in with Rita but assure Rita that they won’t be under her feet for long as hopefully they’re off to Thailand.

On the street, Jenny, Glenda, Daisy, Sean and Gemma watch emotionally as the Waterford’s workmen start boarding up the Rovers.

When Gemma reveals that she’s applied for the deputy manager role with Waterfords, Daisy is fuming, assuming it would go to Jenny.

Is this the end of the Rovers Return?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
