Comedian-cum-activist and philanthropist Eric Omondi has won the Celebrity Champion of the Year at the NGO Awards.
In a statement shared via his official Instagram page, Omondi appreciated his supporters’ efforts and support towards his charity initiatives.
“Thank you team sisi kwa sisi. We won Celebrity Champion of the Year at the NGO Award last night. God bless you,” he wrote.
Omondi had been nominated for the award alongside former news anchor Janet Mbugua, NGOs and civil society leaders including Kenya Red Cross, Kenya Human Rights Commission, AMREF and World Vision among others.
“Through public input, the NGO Awards seeks to amplify the voices of those who have been touched by these organizations and honour those who have driven substantial change,” the Public Benefit Organizations Regulatory Authority said in a statement on November 19, 2024.
The award comes barely weeks after the National Council of Community-Based Organizations (NCBOC) presented him with the Humanitarian of the Year Award at an event held at the Serena Hotel in Nairobi.
Omondi was awarded the accolade for his immense contributions to changing the lives of Kenyans in need through his charity initiatives.
In his acceptance speech after the ceremony, Omondi expressed gratitude to Kenyans who have contributed to the course and dedicated the award to them.
“Tea sisi kwa sisi, you did it!!! Yesterday was a great day! We won Humanitarian of the Year at the National Council of Community Based Organizations at Serena Hotel. Mungu Mbele!!!” he said.
Omondi’s unwavering commitment to improving the lives of those in need has been consistent throughout the year, benefitting most Kenyans.
The comedian-cum-activist incorporates the use of his social media pages to mobilise Kenyans to financially support those in need.
