Coronation Street’s Claire Sweeney has admitted that despite a string of failed romances, she is in no rush to find love again.

The actress and singer, 52, admitted she hasn’t had a date since Christmas, and has taken comfort in knowing her grandmother didn’t find ‘the love of her life’ until the age of 86.

Claire’s last long-term romance came with Daniel Reilly, and the pair split in 2017. They share son Jaxon, eight.

She starred in Legally Blonde and Educating Rita, but currently stars as Cassandra Plummer in Corrie.

Claire also appeared on the most recent series of Dancing On Ice and was the third celebrity to be eliminated, along with professional skater Colin Grafton.

During her long wait to love, Claire was encouraged by her grandmother, who she says only found it at the age of 86.

The actress joked to The Mirror’s By invitation only: ‘If I have to wait that long, so be it! I’m not currently dating, no. I mean, I’m so fulfilled and it’s so exciting what I’m doing. I get all the love I want from my son, all the attention I want at work, and I am financially secure. So right now I’m not looking.

She continued, “I’ve never been as worried as I was 10, 15 years ago, and I think it’s definitely a menopause thing. You saw your body change very quickly before your very eyes, things became broader.”

Claire added: ‘You see your body changing and you get scared, you get more scared of things. Doing Dancing on Ice this year was terrifying, but I went out and gave it a try. And I’ve had a lot of supportive messages.”

She specifically spoke about messages from Carol Vorderman and Vanessa Feltz.

She described her longtime friend Carol as her best friend and explained that she draws inspiration from her lack of fear.

Claire rose to fame in the 1990s as Lindsey Corkhill in the now canceled Channel 4 soap Brookside.

She arrived on the cobbles in 2023 as mother and daughter to established characters Tyrone Dobbs and Evelyn Plummer respectively.

In December Claire said Fine that she joined Dancing On Ice because: ‘I wanted to challenge myself.

‘You get little vulnerabilities and fears during menopause and you start to lose your bottle as you get older, so I want to overcome some fears and get my confidence and sass back.

‘It will be good for me. When I first stepped onto the ice, I had a feeling of euphoria. It was such an adrenaline rush, I loved it – how amazing at 52 years old.”

However, the training was not without its problems and Claire admitted she embarrassed herself in front of skating legends Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean.

She said: “The first time I went on the ice, Torvill and Dean were standing in the middle of this huge rink and there were cameras everywhere.

“I was blow-dried and wearing bright blue because I thought it would stand out, but when I got on the ice I flew and landed on my wrist and hurt it.

‘I thought, “If I can keep going with everyone watching me, that would be a big achievement,” so I got back up and kept skating for half an hour and was so proud of myself.

‘Then I looked in the mirror in the dressing room and saw that my leggings were torn and my butt was hanging out the whole time.’

Claire and Daniel split before learning she was pregnant with their son Jaxon and mended their relationship when he was born.

But unfortunately, just nine months after the happy event, Claire and Daniel once again called off their romance.

Claire told MailOnline in a statement: ‘Although we have decided not to stay together, we are committed to raising our wonderful son and ensuring we are great parents and support each other to achieve that.’

Claire got engaged to Daniel on Christmas Eve in 2012 and they split in April 2014, but just weeks later she discovered she was pregnant.

They grew closer during the pregnancy and last year, in an interview with OK! magazine revealed to Claire that they were back together.

“We’re together all the time now,” she said. ‘The priority is the baby and Daniel is supporting me here and he is fantastic. Daniel lived with me and took care of me. He’s been so nice.’

The former Brookside actress told the publication that Daniel had quickly become a very hands-on father.

“He was brilliant,” she said. “He took him off me for a few hours this morning so I could get some sleep.

‘Daniel immediately started changing nappies and he is always there to support me. I couldn’t ask for anyone better.’

Claire also revealed why she decided to name her little one Jaxon, despite planning to name him Gabriel.

‘Jaxon was a name Daniel and I chose together when I was pregnant the year before when I had two miscarriages. I liked that it was a name we both agreed on.”
