AC Milan winger Christian Pulisic received death threats and further abuse on social media after his team’s heated 1-0 win over Lazio.
Lazio finished the match with just eight men, with the USMNT star involved in two of the three red cards for his opponents.
After the match, Pulisic posted photos on Instagram of himself and the Milan team celebrating, which were flooded with unsavory messages in the comments section.
There were also plenty of messages of support for the American, including from Milan teammate Théo Hernandez, who wrote: ‘Puliiiii I am your certainty.’
Luca Pellegrini was sent off in the 67th minute after receiving two yellow cards in quick succession. Both cards were the result of fouls against Pulisic.

Later, Matteo Guendouzi was shown a straight red card in injury time for reacting poorly to a foul by the United States star, who also received a yellow card for the incident.
Guendouzi had his jersey pulled by Pulisic and took revenge, resulting in both men receiving cards, although the American was booked rather than outright red.
Pulisic joined Milan from Chelsea in the off-season in the hope of reviving a flagging club career.
He scored seven goals and provided six assists in 25 league appearances and put in a solid first season in his new surroundings.
The hosts finished the match with eight players after defender Adam Marusic was also sent off for a challenge on Leao in stoppage time.
