Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has said he had the opportunity to share insights on presidential campaign strategies with Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah, who recently announced his intention to contest in the 2027 presidential elections.

According to a post on Cherargei’s official X account, the two met to discuss their visions for a prosperous Kenya. He emphasized the importance of unity and collaborative efforts in national development.

Cherargei recounted his experiences in past presidential campaigns, noting his role in securing victories for former President Uhuru Kenyatta and current President William Ruto.

“As promised, I did catch up with my brother Senator Okiya Omtatah for a tête-à-tête and his insights on a prosperous Kenya,” Cherargei said.

“We agreed that this country belongs to all of us, and we need all hands on deck. I shared my past experiences on presidential campaigns where all my candidates have won, from Uhuru to Ruto, based on many factors, including resource mobilization.”

Omtatah’s campaign team

This meeting follows Omtatah’s official declaration of his presidential ambitions via a gazette notice, where he chose a 10-member committee to analyze his campaign strategies.

In the Gazette Notice dated Friday, November 22, 2024, Senator Okiya Omtatah formed a 10-member Presidential Exploratory Committee to evaluate the feasibility of his presidential bid. The committee’s mandate is to analyze electoral prospects and offer strategic guidance on the way forward.

The committee will be chaired by Mary Kathomi Riungu, with Charles Ole Kabailou serving as Deputy Chairperson and coordinator for diaspora affairs. Its members include a diverse team of strategists, legal advisors, media consultants, and public relations experts, each tasked with specific responsibilities to advance Omtatah’s aspirations for the presidency.

The team’s primary objectives are to assess political viability, foster stakeholder engagement, develop strategic plans, ensure legal compliance, manage media relations, and spearhead fundraising initiatives. Their role includes analyzing Omtatah’s popularity, evaluating the political landscape, and ensuring compliance with Kenya’s electoral laws. Additionally, they will collaborate with key political stakeholders, such as party leaders, grassroots organizations, and civil society groups, to gauge support and build alliances.

According to the Gazette Notice, the committee will also conduct public opinion polls and surveys to evaluate the Senator’s electability and monitor political trends across various regions and demographics. Media relations will be crucial to their work, including handling public inquiries and crafting initial campaign messages to assess the aspirant’s appeal to voters.

The team is further tasked with evaluating Omtatah’s resource mobilization. The legal experts within the committee will oversee compliance with electoral regulations and address potential legal risks.
