Casey Donovan takes on an iconic new role after being cast as the lead in the musical Sister Act.
The singer reprises the role that none other than Whoopi Goldberg made famous in the 1992 film, as she steps into the dancing shoes of Sister Deloris Van Cartier.
“It’s huge, it’s exciting, it’s everything,” Casey said the Daily Telegraph this week.
“It’s nerve-wracking, but I tend to embrace the challenge and I’m looking forward to challenging myself in the best way possible,” she added.
“I grew up watching movies, it was my childhood movie.”

Sister Act will premiere at the Capitol Theater in Sydney in August and at the Regent Theater Melbourne in November.
“The life of disco diva Deloris takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder,” reads the musical’s official website.
“She has been placed under protective custody and hidden in the one place she should not be found: a monastery!
“Encouraged to help the struggling choir, she helps her fellow sisters find their true voices while unexpectedly rediscovering her own. ‘
“It’s nerve-wracking, but I tend to embrace the challenge and I’m looking forward to challenging myself in the best way possible,” she said
Casey is also doing well in her private life, because she has a happy relationship with girlfriend Renee Sharples.
“I’m in a very happy, safe place in my life,” the 35-year-old singer said The Daily Telegraph.
She went on to say that she has “never been happier” and that her relationship has given her more confidence.
“It’s taken me finding the love of my life and kissing a few frogs – and living through a very challenging part of my life – to find confidence and happiness within myself.”
