Carey Mulligan looks sensational in new Vogue shoot as she discusses her ‘soul-baring’ relationship with Bradley Cooper and the REAL reason he cast her in new movie Maestro

Carey Mulligan looks amazing in a series of new images for the November issue Vogue.

Carey, 38, stands out in a red Gucci dress that has a blue band at the waist and appears on the cover in a Louis Vuitton dress and a Tiffany brooch.

Her latest project outside of the fashion world sees her playing Leonardo Bernstein’s wife, Felicia Montalegre, in the new film Maestro, a 2023 American biographical drama film that focuses on the couple’s relationship.

Bernstein is played by Bradley Cooper, 48, who also directed the film and starred Carrey in the role.

The Oscar winner’s make-up, which included a prosthetic nose to portray the Jewish icon, was recently dubbed ‘Jewface’.

‘There are shots of them exchanging anecdotes and seeming to dance.’

The arrangement may have been unusual, with Montalegre taking on her husband’s affairs, but Carey insists there was more to the story, saying love is a supernatural attunement to one another.

She insists, “This was the most intense preparation I’ve ever done for a movie,” Mulligan continues. There were technicalities — nailing Felicia’s accent and demeanor — but the most important thing, she says, was the Felicia-Lenny connection.’

Carrey said she and Bradley had their own way of bonding for the film.

Acting outside of her usual instinctive process, Mulligan joined Cooper for a five-day ‘dream workshop’.

Shaking her head, she said: “I guess Bradley has always done this sort of thing, using your dreams to connect your subconscious to the character, but it was new to me. But I had to go all in.’

And in an interview Vogue conducted with Bradley before the actors’ strike, he said: “I knew her abilities. All I asked her to do was prepare with me; I said, “Are you going to go down this road where we basically bare each other’s souls?”

‘And she said, ‘Okay, let’s do it, I’m playing’.’

During the interview, it becomes clear that Bradley had his eye on Carey for his project after seeing her perform in Dennis Kelly’s one-woman show.

Bradley was in the audience when a giant stage curtain fell on Mulligan’s head.

She crawled under and continued the show. Immediately after she took her final bow, Cooper stormed backstage, finding Mulligan dazed and possibly concussed.

He demanded that they go straight to the hospital. Which they did, but the incident was thought to have stayed with Cooper, and his moral was: Carey Mulligan doesn’t give up.

The Maestro — starring Sarah Silverman, Matt Bomer and Maya Hawke — opens in theaters on November 22, followed by a Netflix streaming premiere on December 20.

Vogue’s November 2023 issue hits newsstands nationwide on October 24.
