Thepkrasattri Road near the Heroines Monument in Phuket was the scene of a severe car crash that left a 34 year old Thai man seriously injured. The accident occurred in the early hours of today, April 1, after Decha Phothisrisung lost control of his vehicle, slamming into a palm tree on the central reservation before his pickup overturned.
The distressing incident was reported at around 1.50am by Police Captain Thitiwat Asasingh from Thalang Police. He arrived at the scene, approximately 200 metres north of the Heroines Monument, accompanied by rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Foundation and Srisoonthorn Municipality.
They discovered Decha’s heavily damaged Isuzu D-Max pickup, registered in Saraburi, in the middle of the southbound lanes. Residents who had hurried to assist had already managed to upright the vehicle.
Decha was promptly transported to Thalang Hospital due to the severity of his injuries. According to initial police investigations, it appears that the pickup was travelling at a high speed when Decha lost control. The vehicle then mounted the central reservation, colliding with a palm tree and a kilometre marker before flipping over and coming to a halt.
Authorities have since recovered the pickup and are continuing their investigation into the circumstances leading up to the accident. Pol. Capt. Thitiwat Asasingh has already indicated their intention to charge Decha with causing damage to government property at the very least.
“The pickup was travelling at high speed when Mr Decha lost control, mounted the central reservation, hit a palm tree and wiped out a kilometre marker before flipping over and coming to rest.
“We are continuing our investigation and have already expressed our intention to charge Mr Decha at least with causing damage to government property.”
In related news, the Phuket authorities apprehended a 17 year old boy on March 27 after he allegedly shot a 16 year old boy near the Phuket Mining Museum.
The incident was reported to the police around 1.35am, when the young victim was targeted whilst riding his motorcycle. An unidentified man in a white pickup truck approached him and fired a shot, hitting the teenager in his left arm.
