Canada’s most-wanted man arrested in Luton flat

A four-storey block of flats in Luton became the scene of the arrest of one of Canada’s most-wanted men. Adrian Gordon, 24, was apprehended after evading capture following the fatal shooting of Jesse Tubbs, 30, a champion bodybuilder, in Toronto. Tubbs, whose body bore multiple bullet wounds, succumbed to his injuries in hospital. Gordon fled Canada, prompting the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to seek public assistance in locating him.

The RCMP warned the public that Gordon was “armed, violent, and dangerous.” The search eventually expanded internationally, leading investigators to Luton. An extradition request was sent to the National Crime Agency in London, resulting in Gordon’s arrest at The Martindales housing complex in Bedfordshire.

Pavel Klimowicz, a local resident and student, recounted the arrest: “I woke up to a massive scream and found out later that the police had raided the building and arrested him. It’s crazy to think he’s one of Canada’s most wanted men. There are kids and families living here, so thank God something worse didn’t happen.”

Another neighbour remarked: “He kept to himself but was always polite and nice. It’s incredible to think he was wanted for a murder.” The RCMP continue to investigate the motive behind Tubbs’ first-degree murder. Gordon appeared before Westminster magistrates on Tuesday last week and was remanded in custody until 30 September, pending an extradition hearing.

In a statement, the RCMP confirmed, “On Monday, August 19, 2024, Adrian Gordon Jr was located and arrested in Luton, England. He is being held by authorities in the United Kingdom, pending extradition to Canada, where he will face a charge of First Degree Murder.”

The Toronto Police Service expressed gratitude to the RCMP, Interpol, the UK National Crime Agency, and the public for their cooperation. The Bedfordshire Police have been approached for further comment.
