Kanchanaburi police arrested 25 illegal immigrants attempting to cross the Thai border in Sangkhlaburi. The interception occurred at 2am today, June 28, as immigration officers and related agencies conducted a coordinated operation.
Police in Kanchanaburi were alerted to the presence of numerous foreign immigrants hiding in a forested area of Sangkhlaburi. Responding swiftly, officers positioned at Prang Plo Intersection, along with relevant agencies, were dispatched to investigate the reports.
Upon reaching the location near the Vajiralongkorn Dam Reservoir, officers discovered the group of immigrants. The authorities successfully detained more than 25 individuals, who lacked any legal documentation.
Through an interpreter, the immigrants admitted that they were seeking employment opportunities in Central Thailand and were awaiting pickup by Thai nationals. The group was subsequently escorted to the Sangkhlaburi police station for further processing, which includes deportation and legal proceedings.
Names and ages of the individuals involved were not disclosed.
In related news, police raided a condominium in Samut Prakan, uncovering a violent feud between Cambodian and Burmese immigrants.
The raid, led by Police Major General Wichit Boonchinwutikul, Chief of Samut Prakan Provincial Police, saw over 50 officers descend on the Bang Pu area, resulting in the arrest of 50 illegal migrant workers.
The crackdown was triggered by a brutal altercation on Monday night, June 24. Over 20 Cambodian workers, armed with guns and knives, launched a vicious revenge attack on a group of Myanmar teenagers, leaving one Burmese individual gravely injured.
In other news, immigration police in Pattaya detained numerous undocumented workers from Laos and Vietnam following complaints from locals. The operation, conducted on June 24 at a market in Soi Phonprapanimit, Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chon Buri province, aimed to address concerns about foreign workers allegedly taking jobs from Thai citizens.
During the raid, officers discovered 38 individuals (25 men and 13 women) from Laos and Vietnam. Many of these workers lacked the necessary documentation, including passports and work permits.
Another Vietnamese worker claimed she was in Thailand as a tourist and was merely buying vegetables at the market. However, police detained her when she failed to produce her passport, reported The Pattaya News.
