NSW Police received reports just after 4am that a person had gone overboard from the Pacific Adventure, just 10 nautical miles off Sydney Heads.

A desperate search was immediately launched before a man’s body was discovered at 10.30am.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner and launch an investigation into the death.

A man on the Pacific Adventure told 2GB radio that he and 2,600 other passengers were woken up early in the morning by a “man overboard call.”

A driver assigned to pick up passengers from the Pacific Adventure explained that he was told not to hurry because “the ship stopped outside the head and someone had gone overboard.”

Previous P&O Cruises employees provided support to the passenger’s family.

The Pacific Adventure returns from a three-day cruise to Queensland’s Morton Island, which was believed to have an Elvis theme.
