The whereabouts of outspoken political blogger Francis Gaitho remain unknown following a sudden arrest at his Westlands home on the night of October 22.
The questionable circumstances surrounding his detention have fueled public concern and an outpouring of support on social media.
Gaitho, known for his sharp political commentary, was taken by unknown individuals in what appeared to be a coordinated operation.
Security footage, shared by fellow blogger Cyprian Nyakundi, shows men entering the building where Gaitho lives.
Moments later, they are seen escorting a handcuffed Gaitho, dressed in a black t-shirt, out of his home.
The timestamp on the video indicates the arrest took place at approximately 8:25 p.m. He was then bundled into the boot of a black SUV, which quickly sped away.
In a chilling turn, Gaitho managed to send out two warnings on X (formerly Twitter) just before his arrest. He first posted, “Police outside the residence I’ve been staying at,” followed by a second post,
“10 police surrounding my house in Westlands. Alert everyone!” These last messages sparked concern among his followers, many of whom are now demanding answers.
The details of the arrest remain unclear, with no official statement from authorities about where Gaitho was taken or why he was detained.
The lack of transparency has ignited a wave of support for Gaitho, with the hashtag #FreeGaitho trending on X. Prominent figures like Nelson Amenya have added their voices, calling for his immediate release and sharing posters with Gaitho’s image demanding justice.
This is not Gaitho’s first run-in with the law. In July 2024, he was arrested and charged with spreading false information about the DCI.
He had alleged that the DCI had mistakenly arrested the wrong suspect in a high-profile murder case. Gaitho denied the charges and was later released on bail.
