Labour CS Alfred Mutua has faced a lot of heartbreak in his 54 years of life.
Before the former Machakos Governor got together with his ex Lilian Ng’ang’a who left him and bore a son with singer juliani, he was initially married to Dr. Josephine Thitu.
But the marriage, just like the Lilian Ng’ang’a relationship did not work out, ending in a nasty divorce.
Before one says that Alfred Mutua ‘has no star for love’ (as per a popular swahili saying), lets recap alfred mutua’s first marriage to the remarkable and high acheved Dr Josephine Thitu, and why they split.
A Union of Promise
Alfred Mutua and Dr. Josephine Thitu tied the knot on July 1, 2000 at Nairobi Baptist Church on Ngong Road. Interestingly, their paths might have crossed at Washington, where both pursued their higher studies.
But despite their strong start, cracks began to show. By 2015, their marriage was falling apart, ending in a divorce due to irreconcilable differences.
Their divorce was settled on August 19 in Australia, where Dr. Thitu had relocated with their three children.
She won full custody of the kids.
Mutua unsuccessfully attempted to claim a share of the multi-million matrimonial property and to have the children returned to Kenya.
In fact, the court not only ruled against him but also ordered him to pay Thitu’s legal fees.
Alfred Mutua and Lilian Ng’ang’a Breakup
Much like the messy end of his first marriage, Alfred Mutua’s ten-year relationship with Lilian Ng’ang’a also ended in a legal battle.
The pair met aboard a Kenya Airways flight where Lilian Ng’ang’a worked as an air hostess.
When things went South, Lilian took Mutua to court, accusing him of harassment, taking her property, and selling their shared assets without her consent.
She claimed that Mutua refused to accept their breakup, threatened her life, and seized her car and shares.
Mutua denied these accusations, saying their separation was friendly and that the assets in question were his alone.
Eventually, the legal fight ended with an out-of-court settlement. Lilian got her car back, and the property issues were settled privately. Both kept the details of their agreement under wraps, quietly ending their very public dispute.
Dr. Josephine Thitu’s Impressive Legacy
Dr. Josephine Thitu is much more than just Alfred Mutua’s ex-wife. She has over 17 years experience in pharmaceuticals and public health. She holds a Master of Public Health and a Bachelor of Pharmacy from the University of Washington, as well as a Doctor of Pharmacy from Purdue University, which she earned in 2006.
Thitu’s career includes impressive roles such as Programme Director at Afya Afrique, a health systems consultancy in Nairobi, and Deputy Chief of Party for the Strengthening Pharmaceutical Systems programme. She also founded the Machakos Women Foundation.
After their split, Dr. Thitu stepped back from the limelight. And chose to focus on her career and personal life in Australia.
Meanwhile, Mutua is yet to publicly introduce any new love interest post his breakup with Lilian Ng’ang’a.
