Ajax have confirmed the signing of former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson following the termination of his contract with Al Ettifaq.
The 33-year-old made a hasty exit from his Saudi Pro League club after failing to establish himself in the country since leaving Anfield last summer.
Shortly after his signing was announced, the England international took to social media to thank his former teammates and fans and explain his decision to leave the Saudi club.
“I regret to say that I will be leaving Al Ettifaq with immediate effect.” He wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “It wasn’t an easy decision, but I think it’s the best for me and my family.
‘I would like to take this opportunity to thank the club and the fans for all the support during my time. I really felt the love from day one. I will continue to watch and hope for your success. Good luck in the future.’

Ajax announced the big shot in a video praising his abilities as a leader and his comfort playing in ‘red and white’, thanks to his early days at boyhood club Sunderland.
The England international joins a side that has developed since their dismal start to the campaign to finish fifth in the Dutch top flight.
Henderson could make his debut on Sunday when Ajax welcomes RKC Waalwijk to the Johan Cruijff Arena.
