Adam Chowdhary’s identity disclosed after Yousef Makki murder case

Adam Chowdhary, who once was identified as ‘Boy B’ in the Yousef Makki murder case, is from an affluent family based in Hale Barns, Manchester. Chowdhary drew public attention due to his involvement in this high-profile legal case. He was acquitted of lying to the police about the stabbing of Yousef Makki, a 17-year-old schoolboy. The incident happened on 2 March 2019 during a fight between Yousef Makki and Joshua Molnar, both 17 at the time.

Chowdhary, now 21, was apprehended when the knife he had purchased online was identified as the weapon used in the stabbing. He rejected allegations that he had fabricated a story with Joshua Molnar to safeguard himself. Despite his identity being public knowledge now, information about his family, notably the identities of his parents, remains undisclosed.

Chowdhary’s identity was shielded for over a year due to a youth anonymity order necessitated by his involvement in the criminal case as a minor. The anonymity was set to be lifted automatically on his 18th birthday, 24 January 2020. However, Chowdhary endeavoured to extend this anonymity until the completion of his education in November 2021. The High Court dismissed his application, citing the substantial public interest in open justice.

The court further stressed the seriousness of knife possession, an offence that Chowdhary had confessed to, and stated that there was a strong public interest in knowing the identity of those who commit serious offences. Consequently, Chowdhary’s identity was disclosed publicly in February 2020. Despite this, the identities of his parents and other family members still remain a mystery.

As for his family’s ethnicity and origin, Chowdhary is from Hale Barns, a wealthy area in Manchester, England. His family is said to be affluent, hailing from Cheshire, a region in northwest England renowned for its high standard of living. Although specific information about Chowdhary’s ethnicity is not publicly known, his surname suggests a South Asian lineage. The name ‘Chowdhary’ is prevalent in several South Asian countries such as India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Without additional information, it is impossible to confirm his ethnic background conclusively.
