80-year-old dog walker dies after attack by children

Bhim Kohli, an 80-year-old dog walker, died after an alleged assault by a group of children in a Leicestershire park. Authorities have identified the suspects as five children—three aged 12 and two aged 14. Four were released without further action, while one 14-year-old remains in custody.

Mr Kohli was attacked near an entrance to Franklin Park on Bramble Way in Braunstone Town around 6:30 pm. He succumbed to his injuries later in hospital. Local residents mentioned that Mr Kohli had previously been harassed by teenagers, including having stones thrown at him.

A resident observed three boys and two girls laughing in the area on the day of the incident. Frank, a 50-year-old neighbour, noted the police presence since Monday morning and the park entrance closure. He mentioned the community is typically quiet and peaceful, and that Mr Kohli lived with his family.

A neighbour, who spoke to Mr Kohli days before the attack, described him as a longstanding resident of 35 years, living with his family and owning a large dog named Rocky. She recalled a pleasant conversation with him about his allotments. Other neighbours echoed these sentiments, describing him as kind and caring, often seen walking his dogs and engaging in friendly chats.

The group of young people allegedly attacked Mr Kohli near his home’s entrance. The suspects fled but were later apprehended by police. Mr Kohli’s daughter stated her father was just seconds from home when the attack occurred. She mentioned his active lifestyle and the recent rise in anti-social behaviour in the area, which had been reported to the police.
