8 shortlisted for deputy inspector general positions

The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has shortlisted eight candidates for the positions of deputy inspector general in the administration police service and the deputy inspector general in the Kenya police service.

The commission settled on the eight following an internal vetting of some 38 individuals who applied for the positions including former administration police spokesperson Masoud Mwinyi.

In the Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service positions, George Adero Sedah, Eliud Kipkoech Lagat, Tom Mboya Odero and Vincent Kinas Makokha have been shortlisted in a statement by the commission on Friday, July 19, 2024.

The four will have their interviews conducted from 9:30 am on Monday, July 22, 2024, at the Kenya School of Government, Lower Kabete campus. The interviews will run until 12:30 pm in the afternoon.

Similarly, Gilbert Masengeli, Margaret Nyambura Karanja, James Mukuha Kamau, and Masoud Mwinyi were shortlisted for the position of Deputy Inspector General of Administration police.

The four will face the panel of interviewers from 2 pm to 4:30 pm at the same venue.

In total, 38 applicants applied for the position of deputy inspector general of police, with 21 applying for the deputy inspector general of the Kenya Police Service.

These were Fredrick Odhiambo Ochieng, George Adero Sedah, Duncan Onyango Ochieng, Eliud Kipkoech Lagat, Tom Mboya Odero, Allan Onyango Sangorah, Vincent Kinas Makokha, Johana Kiplangat Tonui, Samuel Cheserek Kobina and David K. Sang.

Others were Yusuf Mucheke Kibiru, David Kiprotich Chumba, Justice Dakar Mukutwa, Zipporah Khatuchi Mmbasu, Nelly Muthoni, Deya Shem Othoo, John Kosgey Kibiwott, David Munyes Napak, Nelson Mayabi Ashiali, Dennis Morang’a and Nicholas Mutwiri.

Also, those who applied for the position of deputy inspector general of the administration police were Godfrey Otunge, James Mukuha Kamau, Masoud Mwinyi, Gilbert Masengeli, Bernard Baraza Walumoli, Margaret Nyambura Karanja, Christine W Temko and Samuel Cheserek Kobina.

Others were Margaret Wanjuhi Chege, Paul Kanja Wangechi, Bernard Ombati Ondieki, Christopher Waindi Ouma and Mike Kimutai Arusei.

The National Police Service Commission CEO Peter Leley said Paul Omondi Okinyi, Brian Wekesa Wanyonyi, Abdirashid Bilali and Nicholas Mwiti did not specify the positions they were applying for during the application process.

The commission has encouraged members of the public to submit written memoranda concerning the shortlisted eight candidates and address them to the chairperson or online by Monday, July 22, 2024.

On July 12, 2024, Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome resigned, prompting the president to replace him with the Deputy Inspector General of Kenya police service Douglas Kanja in an acting capacity.
