‘8 Mile’ actor and rapper Nashawn Breedlove dead at 46

Rapper and actor Nashawn Breedlove, who starred alongside Eminem in the hit film “8 Mile” in 2002, has died aged 46, his mother confirmed on social media Tuesday.

A family member told TMZ that Breedlove died in his sleep on Sunday at his home in New Jersey.

The cause of death is still unknown.

“Nashawn was a rapper, singer, songwriter, and actor,” his mom Patricia Breedlove began in a Facebook post. “No one could deny his talent.”

“Nashawn’s departure from this world has left an immense void in my life, one that words cannot fully express.”

“I can’t put into words the pain and hurt that I feel. He was not just my son; he was a remarkable man whose character and strength inspired all who crossed his path,” she added.

Breedlove found fame after playing rapper Lotto in the film, which was loosely based on the “The Real Slim Shady” hitmaker’s life.

The film’s final scene sees him and Eminem’s character B-Rabbit engage in a heated rap battle.

Following the news of his death, rapper Mickey Factz posted a heartfelt tribute on social media alongside a clip of Breedlove rapping in “8 Mile.”

“RIP to one of the few emcee’s to beat Eminem… Lotto from 8 Mile. Who’s friends lovingly called him, OX. You will be missed for your tenacity and aggressiveness,” he wrote on Instagram.

The final scene in “8 Mile” sees Breedlove’s character Lotto engage in a heated rap battle with Eminem’s character B-Rabbit.

Latisha Harper, Breedlove’s ex-girlfriend with whom she shared a son, rushed to the comments section, writing that her ex was “so humble” and “didn’t even know he had true fans.”

“He was so talented,” Harper went on. “Not only Wa (sic) he an amazing MC he sang better than Luther. He blessed me with my son @youngzaak and I swear that is Nashawn to the 10th power. I will always be his biggest fan.if yal only knew his talent 🙌 please pray for our strength it is needed. Thank you again @mickey.factz.”

The pair’s son, 22-year-old Zaak, posted a photo of his dad from the hit film on Instagram, writing, “RIP to my Father. The Legend of Hip Hop.”

Before landing the role, Breedlove went by the stage name OX and appeared on the soundtrack for the 2001 film “The Wash” which starred west coast legends Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg.
