Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has disclosed that 5,931 Kenyans have secured an opportunity to work abroad after successful interviews.
In a statement via his official X account on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, Mutua stated that the working abroad national recruitment exercise launched ten days ago in an initiative by the government to link skilled Kenyans with overseas employment opportunities.
“I am pleased to announce that 5,931 Kenyans have secured job opportunities abroad since the launch of the government’s national recruitment exercise just ten days ago. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to linking skilled Kenyans with overseas employment opportunities as we address the pressing issue of unemployment in our country,” he announced.
The CS further announced that the recruitment exercise will take a brief break in readiness for the Jamhuri Day celebrations adding that during the break, the government would be facilitating successful applicants’ passports and certificates of good conduct.
He further added that new dates for the recruitment exercise will be announced after the celebration.
“The recruitment drive will take a brief pause to accommodate preparations for the upcoming Jamhuri Day celebrations, During this pause, we will focus on processing the 5,931 job offers by facilitating the issuance of passports and certificates of good conduct for successful applicants,”
“I want to assure all successful applicants that they will be contacted by Wednesday next week, and a new schedule for the exercise will be announced after Jamhuri Day, “Mutua added.
Successful applicants
In addition, the CS revealed that the successful applicants are from six counties with Nakuru County taking the lead on the number of youths who qualified for the overseas jobs.
“So far the number of recruits from six counties: Machakos (752), Makueni (410), Kitui (901), Nakuru (2,516), Baringo (640), and Nyandarua (925),” he disclosed.
Mutua on youths
While stating the impact the overseas jobs would have on the country’s economy, Mutua urged the Kenyan youths to embrace technical courses noting that employers globally are seeking individuals with technical expertise.
“These job offers will not only transform individual lives but also contribute significantly to boosting remittances to our economy. I urge our youth to embrace technical training in the many institutions across the country, as employers globally are seeking individuals with technical expertise,” he urged.
