Social media influencer and commentator Maverick Aoko is no stranger to public spats, with her confrontations often playing out in the public eye. Or is it?
Well, Aoko is currently being detained at Muthaiga Police Station after being apprehended by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives on Friday, August 16, 2024 over her social media posts.
However, her arrest was not a matter of if, but when. In fact, Aoko could have been arrested in May 2023, when her public spat with former for Ministry of Industrialization, Trade and Enterprise Development CAS David Osiany played out in public.
Here are other instances that have landed Aoko in trouble;
Aoko’s clash with Osiany
In May 2023, Aoko clashed with Osiany after she alleged she was in a relationship with the former CAS.
On several occasions, Aoko made posts on X claiming that she used to house Osiany and fuel his c*r in 2022 when he tried to unsuccessfully vie for an elective post.
Aoko at some point dragged Osiany’s wife Syombua Osiany into her spats, prompting a response from the former CAS.
Osiany threatened l**********n against Aoko, warning that it was high time the controversial social media influencer paid for what he termed as silliness in the name of clout chasing.
“Your two minutes of fame is up! Time to make you pay for this silliness in the name of clout-chasing. I’m going to ensure this is the last you do. And I’m not buffing,” Osiany stated.
Aoko however dared him to bring it on saying she was ready to argue her case on the matter.
Osiany later remained mum on the matter, and opted not to sue Aoko.
Aoko’s comments on LGBTQ+ Community
In June 2023, Aoko made comments perceived as d********y towards the LGBTQ+ community.
Her comments came after Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni signed an anti-LGBTQ+ Bill that set tough rules on the community.
In a post made by Aoko via her X account on June 11, 2023, she claimed that the Ugandan President had been put on life support machine after he signed the bill.
She went ahead to claim that the international community was out to eliminate Museveni, after what she claimed as having successfully eliminated former Tanzania President John Pombe Magufuli over his stance.
At the time, President William Ruto had maintained his stance that he will not allow marriage between p****e of the same gender to happen in Kenya.
Aoko in his X post warned that should the international community touch on Ruto, they would make the second world w*r look like a child’s play.
“Do you guys not find it weird that M7 just signed the LGBTQ thingy and he is now on life support? They killed Maghu? Wasijaribu doyen! katanuka… They will make World W*r 2 look like child’s play…. Hata Russia- Ukraine w*r ni kalongo,” Aoko stated.

Activists and allies of the LGBTQ+ community called out her comments as harmful and discriminatory.
Aoko’s Political Commentary
Aoko has had a problem with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party since after the 2022 general elections.
She has been arguing that ODM used and dumped her.
Her issues with the Orange party has seen her, on several occasions, pick wars with anyone associated with it.
In this case, ODM party leader Raila Odinga, his family and aides have s******d most from her spats.
Aoko has several claimed have had an intimate relationship with former ODM National Chairperson John Mbadi.
Aoko has been claiming that she used to work as Mbadi’s aide at some point and that the National Treasury Cabinet Secretary would always demand for s****l favours before paying her.
However, these claims cannot be substantiated, as her allegations are always one-sided.
Her political commentary has found her in trouble with a section of Kenyans who, in most cases, have been telling her off.
She has faced a significant backlash from her followers who disagreed with her stance of picking f****s with top political figures.
Aoko’s Insensitive Remarks
Aoko has also faced backlash for what many perceived as insensitive remarks against several leaders in the country.
Several female political figures have fallen victims of Aoko’s remarks, among them being First Lady Rachel Ruto, Second Lady Dorcas Rigathi, Defense Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya and EALA MP Winnie Odinga.
Some of the insetive remarks made via her X account have since been deleted following her arrest.
