5 counties set to experience blackout on Monday

Kenya Power has announced a planned electricity disruption affecting five counties on Monday, August 12, 2024.

In a customer notice on Sunday, August 11, 2024, the power transmission company indicated that the outage would start from 9 A.M to 5 P.M.

According to the utility firm, the outage is to allow for routine maintenance of its system.

Nairobi County

In the city, the power outage will affect Kilimani, parts of Ngong Road, and Argwings Kodhek.

Other areas include Timau and Tigoni Road, Marcus Garvey, Rose Avenue, Kindaruma Road, Bishop Magua, Coptic Hospital, Mimosa Road, Royal Golf Club, St Nicholas Jnr School, Naivas Kilimani, Olive Garden Hotel, Four Point, Gemina Court, Monarch Hotel, and adjacent customers.

Homa Bay

The blackout will hit Arujo, Rabuor Masawa, Kabunde, Jerry Ndong, Ogandi Girls, Wiga, Ndiru Primary, and adjacent customers.

Nyeri, Murang’a counties

In Nyeri, residents of Miagayuini, Ngooru, Zaina Dispensary, Juakali, Ihwa, and adjacent customers will stay without power from 8 A.M to 5 P.M.

Maragua Town, Mugumoini, Ichagaki, Githuya, Gakoigo, Nginda, Kaharo, Irembu, Ihumbu, Gathera, Gachocho, and adjacent customers in Murang’a County will also have to stay without power from 9 A.M to 5 P.M.

Kiambu County

Parts of Kiambu County will also be affected by the planned system maintenance scheduled for Monday, August 12, 2024.

According to Kenya Power, Kariminu Dam, Kiriko Mission, Kiriko Girls, Kanyoni Coffee Factory, Kanyoni Market, and Ndiko Market will be affected.

Other areas within Kiambu County that will suffer a blackout include Gakoe Market, Gicheha Farm Gakoe, Thuraku Village, Mwimuto Village, Gachege Tea Factory, Gachege Market, Muiri Village, Ndarugugu Water Supply, Njahi School, Mururia School, Ndarugu Tea Factory, Kirangi Market, Ituramiro Market, Gathomi Village, Kibiru School, Roi Village, Gaitete Village, Karatu Market, Karinga Girls, Kimaruri Village, Karinga Market, and adjacent customers.

The power outage is expected to affect other operations that depend on electricity to run for the better part of Monday.

The early notice is also meant to allow customers to prepare in advance for the outage expected on Monday.
