4 arrested as police seize an assortment of suspected bhang

Police have arrested four suspects and seized a substantial amount of suspected bhang in two separate operations.

On Wednesday, September 11, 2024, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reported that a multi-agency security team conducting operations at the Sabaki Bridge roadblock in Msufini intercepted a red motorcycle (KMGA 434P).

The search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 50 rolls of dry plant material wrapped in khaki papers and two bundles of loose dry plant material wrapped in old newspapers. All items are suspected to be bhang.

“A multi-agency security team operating at the Sabaki Bridge roadblock in Msufini has intercepted a red motorcycle (KMGA 434P) and conducted a search leading to the discovery of 50 rolls of dry plant material wrapped in khaki papers and two bundles of loose dry plant material wrapped in old newspapers, all suspected to be bhang,” the statement by DCI read in part.

DCI said the items were found inside a yellowish gunny bag held by a pillion passenger, identified as John Hero Komora, 31. All three occupants of the motorcycle were arrested and are currently cooling their heels in custody waiting arraignment.

In another raid, detectives from the Transnational Organized C****s Unit and the Anti-N******c Unit carried out a raid at Mutete Flats in Athi River, Machakos County, based on tips from the public. They focused on the home of Teresia Mwikali Amukua.

“Detectives from the Transnational Organized C****s Unit and the Anti-N******c Unit, acting on information from the public, raided Mutete Flats in Athi River, Machakos County. The raid targeted the residence of Teresia Mwikali Amukua, where authorities recovered two greenish gunny sacks and four packages of greenish dry plant material, which are suspected to be bhang. In addition to the suspected d***s, the search also uncovered empty gunny sacks, polythene papers, a debit card, and a weighing scale,” the authority stated.

DCI said they seized two greenish gunny sacks and four packages containing a greenish, dry plant material believed to be bhang.

The search at Amukua’s residence also uncovered empty gunny sacks, polythene papers, a debit card, and a weighing scale. Teresia Mwikali Amukua was detained at Muthaiga Police Station and will face charges at the JKIA Law Courts.

“The coordinated efforts in these operations reflect a strong commitment to tackling substance trafficking around the nation. They also demonstrate the effectiveness of joint operations and public cooperation in combating i*****l substance activities while ensuring those involved are held to account,” DCI added.
