A 73-year-old man, Gary Lansky, has been charged with assault with intent to murder and felonious assault after attacking a 7-year-old Arab American girl of Yemeni decent, Saida Mashrah.
The incident took place around 3:45 p.m. on October 8, when Detroit police were dispatched to a home on Stahelin Avenue following reports of a stabbing. READ MORE HERE
Upon arrival, officers found the young girl with a laceration to her throat. Emergency personnel provided treatment at the scene before transporting her to a local hospital.
According to prosecutors, Lansky approached Mashrah at Gary park located in the area of Ford Rd and Southfield Freeway just outside of Dearborn, where he allegedly cut her throat before fleeing the area. Police were able to apprehend Lansky later that same day.
Lansky has been charged with assault with intent to murder and felonious assault. The motive behind the attack is still unclear, and the investigation is ongoing.
