The attorney for John Laurinaitis, a prominent figure in the WWE administration, has indicated that the corporation was aware of the late Ashley Massaro’s sexual assault charges. The discoveries call into question WWE’s earlier denial of any knowledge of the occurrence.
Ashley Massaro, who died tragically in 2019 at the age of 39, alleged in a 2019 affidavit that she was drugged and raped by someone impersonating a US Army doctor during a 2007 public relations tour of military bases in Kuwait.
According to the documents, Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis encouraged Massaro to remain silent about the assault to safeguard WWE’s ties with the US military.
WWE’s official response, issued days after the affidavit surfaced, stated that they were never aware of the alleged assault.
McMahon claimed that if they had been aware, they would have promptly reported it to the Base Commander, thus removing the corporation from any prior knowledge of the occurrence.
However, Edward Brennan, Laurinaitis’ legal agent, refuted these assertions in a recent interview with Vice. He said that the WWE administration, including Laurinaitis, was aware of Massaro’s allegations. Brennan disagreed with the phrase “cover-up,” but accepted that proper WWE standards were followed, preserving the alleged victim’s privacy.
