FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – Video captured by a witness to Saturday evening’s fatal officer-involved shooting shows the moments leading up to the incident.

Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) detectives say the currently unnamed FWPD officer pulled a car over during a traffic stop near Hurd and John Streets around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 22. According to the department’s media release, the man was shot after “actions from occupants inside the vehicle caused the Officer to discharge their weapon.” Police have not yet said why the officer initially stopped the car.

The man, later identified by family as Linzell Parhm, was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The department said the officer was placed on administrative leave per FWPD policy.

The shooting was captured on video and has been viewed thousands of times on social media. The beginning of the video shows the FWPD officer standing outside the pulled-over vehicle with his gun drawn.

The man filming the video tells the officer that he’s on video twice as the officer tells him to stay back.

“Don’t reach for that f****** gun,” the officer is heard saying to someone inside of the car.

The person filming the video then yells, “Put your hands up,” several times as another person in the background yells, “Keep your hands up.”

Then, two gunshots are fired, the video shows.

People in the background are heard yelling as one says, “Stop shooting, bro.” An officer in the background then calls out, “Shots fired.”

“You just shot him,” the witness yells as police tell him to get back, “you just f****** shot him. What the f***, you just shot him, you just f****** shot him … Oh my god, they just shot Zelly, they just shot Zelly. Oh my god.”

The man filming the video repeatedly says, “They just shot my n****” as more police respond to the scene, telling him to stay back. The video then stops.

On Sunday, protesters gathered at the Allen County Courthouse to call for justice in the case and to advocate for the release of the officer’s body camera footage. 21Investigates has filed a public records request to obtain that video.

“It’s unfortunate that we have to continue to go through waiting months for body cam footage. We watched Linzelle die on camera. Release the body cam footage now,” one person said.

A growing memorial has been created for Linzell at the Euell A. Wilson Community Center, a Christian organization Linzell was heavily involved with.

The center made a post on Facebook about his death, saying he “worked tirelessly to ensure all the youth at the center felt a sense of belonging and he cared so deeply for his family and his community.” They say he worked as a barber and dreamed of owning his own business.

“His legacy will be his passion for serving others with care and respect. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends during this very difficult time.”

Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker sent a statement about the shooting on Sunday evening:

“I want the residents of Fort Wayne to know that I understand the concern that is being felt in our community tonight. When a life is lost, we mourn. I continue to be in communication with Chief Caudill regarding last evening’s officer involved shooting. The investigation is being handled by multiple law enforcement agencies. Through this important process, we will learn the details of what occurred. Public safety is a vital and difficult service. It’s critical that we come together as residents of our great city and support one another.”

The shooting remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Indiana State Police, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Coroner’s Office.
