Margot Chevrier, a French pole vaulter, broke her leg horribly during the Glasgow World Athletics Indoor Championships. It was Chevrier’s second try to clear 4.65 meters when the catastrophe happened. Rather than making progress, she tumbled backward into the take-off box, breaking her talus bone in the ankle.
The injuries forced Chevrier to be evacuated on a stretcher and need oxygen, which delayed the race. Coach Grant Brown explained Chevrier’s injury’s seriousness by pointing out that her bone protruded.
Chevrier was seriously competitive going into a big competition when she got hurt. In the pole vault competition, Molly Caudery of Great Britain took home the gold medal. Chevrier’s Instagram post demonstrated her resolve to be well in time for the Olympics in Paris.
There were also poignant moments during the competition, such as Caudery thinking back on her own performance and expressing sympathy for Chevrier’s injury.

Chevrier was seriously competitive going into a big competition when she got hurt. The 24-year-old was trying to beat her own record after clearing 4.50 meters. She was one of the French team’s best chances for a medal in the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, thus her injury is a huge blow for them.
Molly Caudery of Great Britain won the gold medal in the pole vault event without Chevrier. Caudery set a new personal best as she cleared 4.75 meters. US competitor Sandi Morris won the silver medal, while US competitor Katie Nageotte took home the bronze.
