This modern adaptation, brought to life by the acclaimed writer Hans Rosenfeldt, known for his work on “The Bridge” and “Marcella,” promises an expansive yet faithful reimaging of the beloved tale. The series, produced by Filmlance, reintroduces viewers to the spirited and rebellious Ronja, navigating her way through a medieval Scandinavian castle and an enchanted, perilous forest filled with mysterious creatures.
Kerstin Linden leads the stellar cast, joined by Christopher Wagelin, Sverrir Gudnason, Pernilla August, and Johan Ulveson, among others. The narrative unfolds as Ronja forms a forbidden friendship with Birk, a young boy from a rival gang, setting the stage for a dark family feud. Simultaneously, a notorious bailiff arrives, threatening to rid the forest of robbers forever.
