A shooting in northeastern Maine left 18 dead and the suspect was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, US media reported on Friday.

According to CNN, citing law enforcement sources, Robert Card was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The suspect was found at a recycling center in the woods near the town of Lisbon, eight miles from Lewiston.

Maine authorities held a press conference at 10:00 p.m. local time (02:00 GMT). After more than two days of intense searching, further details of the discovery are still unknown. The first thing that was known about him was that his car was found the night of the incident in Lisbon, a small town about 12 kilometers from Lewiston, where the massacre took place.

However, nothing is known about the suspect as authorities posted his photo on social media on Wednesday to raise awareness. Additionally, authorities are asking the public to share any information with police about his possible whereabouts.

Card, a 40-year-old reservist, spent two weeks in a psychiatric hospital. He is currently considered armed and dangerous. The shooting, carried out by a reservist, marked the 36th mass murder in the United States this year.
