Pernilla Hardin, head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Emory University’s Oxford College, died July 2. A six-year battle with ovarian cancer.
Aged 62, she is survived by her husband of 38 years, Robert, and her children, Maria, Jeremiah and Anna.
Pernilla was born in Hudiksvall, Sweden in 1961 and immigrated to the United States in 1981. She went on to have a successful coaching career, being inducted into the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Athletic Hall of Fame and being named NJCAA Coach of the Year for the ninth time.
Pernilla attended Florida Junior College (now known as Florida State College in Jacksonville) on a tennis scholarship. While attending Florida Junior College, Pernilla maintained a 27-0 record. She then played her remaining two years of NCAA Division I (DI) tennis at the University of North Florida (UNF).
