A video of a passenger in first class appearing very pleased with his seat while his family are left eating “homemade sandwiches” several rows behind him has gone viral on TikTok.
The video was posted by Cheyanne Evangeline (@cheyanigans_) and has amassed over 784,000 views since it was shared on June 13. The moment was captured in Cancun, Mexico, according to a location shared with the post.

A message overlaid on the clip says: “Can count on my brother getting 1st class, while the rest of the family sits in Row 35.”
The footage shows the camera walking past a man at a window seat, smiling from ear to ear.
“We’ll be in row 35 eating our homemade sandwiches,” reads a caption shared with the post.
The footage comes as travel is set to reach record highs in 2024, with global tourism spending projected to reach $2 trillion, according to a December 2023 survey by market research firm Euromonitor International.

Travelers say they’ll cut down on other areas of personal spending to prioritize leisure travel this year, according to a global survey of over 10,000 travelers across nine countries, conducted by Ipsos and the Hilton hotel group.
First class seating is often seen as the height of luxury when it comes to air travel. However, some airlines have been cutting back their first class offerings because of falling demand.
In October 2022, American Airlines said they would be getting rid of first class seats on international flights, replacing them instead with business class seating, which more passengers are willing to pay for.

According to CNN, Vasu Raja, the airline’s chief commercial officer, told investors in a conference call: “First class will not exist…at American Airlines for the simple reason that our customers aren’t buying it.”
Raja explained: “The quality of the business class seat has improved so much. And frankly, by removing [first class] we can go provide more business class seats, which is what our customers most want or are most willing to pay for.”
Delta and United have both reportedly nearly halved the number of first class seats on their planes.
