Jennifer Garner is facing backlash on social media after a TikTok user shared a clip from Chelsea Handler’s Netflix celebrity interview series from 2017.
The episode in which people express their rage is titled “Dinner Party: My American Experience,” and it stars Garner, Rob Riggle, Regina King, Mary McCormack, and Dan Savage. In this episode, they talk about their roots, patriotism, religion, and the complexities of modern America.
In one scene, Regina King displays her pride and embraces her heritage as an LA native.
“I grew up here in L.A., born and bred,” King said in the episode. I’m one of the few people who was born and raised in Los Angeles, and I wear it proudly on my chest because so many people say, “Oh, L.A. is this, and L.A. is that.” “No, you’re not from L.A., so you don’t know,” King says.
Jennifer Garner interrupted Regina King and asked, “Do you know where your ancestors are from?” “Well; yeah, we’re part of the triangle slave trade,” King responded. And from Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Senegal.”
Regina King went on to explain how her mother came to Los Angeles from the South. “But my parents are both from the South,” she says. They met each other here. To this day, I’m grateful my mother left.” “My mom was the one who was like, Mam, I’m getting the f*ck out of this bitch, and I’m going to see what else is out there,” King says.
Jennifer Garner’s question to Regina King appears to have outraged social media. Check out their reaction below to the clip.

What an odd follow-up question from Jennifer Garner to Regina King. https://t.co/sfAm3TwcBk pic.twitter.com/OSmnBT3AIl

Of all the questions Jennifer Garner could have asked…
And I would say more about all the looks of wonderment as Regina King answered, but I’m not in the mood for nonsense. https://t.co/iOiCLM9Ojq

Nah Jennifer Garner definitely gave Regina King that white woman stare as she said she was from Los Angeles. I could tell she was about to be ignorant. Lmao they be thirsty for us to root our origin in slavery with nothing else mentioned or considered. https://t.co/SesVlB38IK

Can we talk about his FINE Regina King is too? The Jennifer Garner question is cringe. King handled it well and spun it right back to the narrative she was giving. Looking fine the entire time.
