Kazuki Anaguchi, a 23-year-old bantamweight boxer who underwent brain surgery in December following a grueling struggle for the Japan championship, has died.
The Japan Boxing Commission revealed Anaguchi’s death on Friday, stating that he lost consciousness after being knocked down four times in the grueling 10-round decision contest at Tokyo’s Ariake Arena on December 26th.
Anaguchi’s unwavering enthusiasm and tenacity were visible throughout the match, which featured fierce exchanges that enthralled the fans.
Following the gruesome bout, he was brought to the hospital, where he underwent surgery to treat a subdural hematoma, a dangerous disease caused by blood collection on the brain’s surface.
