She is currently in critical condition. Maurnice DeClue, a 15-year-old girl, is the accused attacker; she has been taken into custody and is charged with assault. Significant concerns concerning school safety and the effects of violence on youth have been brought up by this horrifying episode.

On September 14, 2023, Maurnice DeClue, also a 15-year-old student, viciously attacked Kaylee Gain, a 15-year-old student at Hazelwood East High School in St. Louis, Missouri. After lessons concluded, the attack happened outside the school.

Witnesses reported that DeClue walked up to Gain and punched her in the head and face. DeClue kicked Gain in the head and torso as she slumped to the ground. It took several minutes for DeClue to be hauled away by other students after the incident.
Gain was taken in critical condition to a nearby hospital by ambulance. In order to release pressure on her brain, she had emergency surgery. Her prognosis is unknown, and she is presently in a coma.

Following his arrest, DeClue was accused of first-degree assault. She is presently being jailed on a $50,000 bond at the St. Louis County Jail.
