Evan Daniel McLay It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our son, brother, father and friend Evan Daniel McLay on November 5, 2021 Died at the age of 36. Evan leaves behind heartbroken parents John and Shirley. His sons Finnigan and Lachlann and their mother Kate; older brother Joel (Sandy) and younger sister Mary (Jonathan). Evan is survived by his grandmother Jacqui, many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and his faithful dog Sophie, who accompanied him for nine years. The family is especially grateful to Carlos, Jason and their family for the love, support and friendship they have shown Evan.
Evan has a wide range of interests and a rich life experience. As a young man growing up in Prince George and Mackenzie, Evan played school sports and became an accomplished skier at the family cabin in the Powder King, loving his days in the powder. Evan showed a keen interest in computer technology from an early age and went on to work as a surveyor in Fort St. John, Prince George and Vancouver. In 2009, Evan enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces and served with Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Hilo, Manitoba. After military service, Evan returned to his hometown of Prince George to study electrical engineering at the College of New Caledonia.
He later worked in the landscaping industry and learned how to use heavy equipment. In recent years, Evan has made caring for her children a priority in life. Evan met Kate in 2013 and they were blessed with sons Finnigan and Lachlann over the next few years. Evan was first and foremost a generous and devoted father who loved and cherished his children. Evan enjoys spending time outdoors with his children, fishing, boating and camping. One of Evan’s favorite spots is Lake Azuzeta. Evan has a loving heart and is a trustworthy and loyal friend. He is a very generous person, always willing to give of his time and energy to help others. Evan really wanted the best for those around him. His thoughtfulness, generosity and sharp sense of humor will always be remembered and appreciated.
