With a master’s degree in Counseling and Psychological Services and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from SUNY Oswego, Eric became a licensed professional and dedicated himself to making a difference in the lives of those struggling with mental health issues.

His impact extended far beyond his counseling practice. Eric played a pivotal role in the development and expansion of Farnham Family Services, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals battling addiction. As a board member and later as the executive director, he oversaw the organization’s growth and spearheaded initiatives that positively impacted countless lives.

Eric’s commitment to his community was unwavering. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Eric Anthony Bresee, a beloved member of the Scriba, New York community. Eric’s untimely death on Saturday, November 18, 2023, in Oswego, New York, has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him. We gather here today to honor his life and celebrate the impact he had on the lives of others.

Death and Funeral Service

On Saturday, November 25, 2023, at 4:00 pm, we will come together at Nelson Funeral Home to pay our respects and bid farewell to Eric. The funeral service, presided over by Reverend Jonathan Evans of Elim Grace Church, will be a time to reflect on Eric’s life and the legacy he leaves behind. Prior to the service, there will be a visitation from 1-4 pm, providing an opportunity for friends and loved ones to offer their condolences and support to Eric’s family.

Early Life and Education

Eric Bresee was born on January 4, 1979, in Hannibal, New York, to Lawrence and Julia Bresee. Growing up in Hannibal, Missouri, Eric graduated from Hannibal High School in 1997. He furthered his education at SUNY Oswego, where he earned a BA in Psychology and an MS in Counseling and Psychological Services. Eric’s passion for helping others led him to pursue a career in mental health counseling, where he made a significant impact on the lives of those he served.

Throughout his career, Eric held various positions in the field of mental health counseling. His dedication and expertise were evident in his work as a resident counselor at Oswego County Opportunities, where he provided invaluable support to individuals in need. Eric’s commitment to helping others extended beyond his role as a counselor. He played a crucial role in the development and expansion of Farnham Family Services, serving as a board member and later as the executive director. Under his leadership, Farnham Family Services experienced remarkable growth and success, earning Eric several accolades and awards for his outstanding contributions.

Community Involvement

Eric’s impact was not limited to his professional life. He was actively involved in various community organizations, including the Workforce Development Youth Council, Young Professionals Voice, National Management Association, and Rotary International. Eric’s dedication to his community was recognized when he was named one of Oswego County’s top 40 under-40 young professionals. He also underwent leadership training and graduated from Leadership Oswego County’s class of 2006, further demonstrating his commitment to personal and professional growth.

Beyond his professional and community endeavors, Eric had a zest for life that was contagious. He found joy in activities such as golfing, skateboarding, rollerblading, and boating. These hobbies allowed him to connect with loved ones, including his mother Julia, son Brayden, and wife Amy. Eric cherished the moments spent with his family, whether it was on yearly trips to Myrtle Beach for golf outings or camping adventures in the north. He was known for his vibrant energy and magnetic personality, making him a beloved friend to many.

Surviving Family Members

Eric is survived by his son Brayden, his devoted wife Amy, and his mother Julia. While we mourn the loss of Eric, we also remember his sister Jennifer and father Lawrence, who passed away before him. Our thoughts and prayers are with Eric’s family during this difficult time, and we offer our deepest condolences for their loss.

We mourn the untimely passing of Eric Anthony Bresee, a beloved resident of Scriba, New York. A funeral service will be held on November 25, 2023, at Nelson Funeral Home, with Reverend Jonathan Evans presiding.
