Edward, aged 81, passed away at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill in Pottsville on Wednesday. He was born on June 19, 1942, in Pottsville to his late parents, Edward J. and Edith Sands Averill.

Early Life and Education

Edward received his education from Ford School of Business and Nativity BVM High School, graduating in 1960. He was a diligent student who excelled in his studies, laying the foundation for his future endeavors.

Professional Career

Prior to his retirement, Edward dedicated many years of his life to working for the renowned Acme Market. After retiring, he embarked on a new venture alongside his brother Bob, establishing Candles and Collectibles. Their business thrived, becoming a cherished part of the community.

Community Involvement

Edward was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Pottsville, where he served as an usher. He actively participated in the church’s activities and was a valued member of the congregation. Additionally, he generously volunteered his time as a coach for the Railway Park Little League and the Yorkville Hose Fire Company, making a positive impact on the lives of many young individuals.

Personal Interests

Beyond his professional and community commitments, Edward had a deep passion for sports. He was an avid supporter of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles, faithfully cheering for both teams. His enthusiasm for sports brought joy to his life and connected him with fellow fans.

Edward is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Hudock Averill, who stood by his side throughout their journey together. He is also survived by his daughter, Lori Oler, and her husband Mike, who reside in Birdsboro, as well as his son, Edward “Ted” Averill, who resides in Pottsville. Edward’s two granddaughters, Rachel and Lauren Oler, brought immense happiness to his life. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Averill, who resides in Cape Coral, Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews. Edward’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of his cherished family members.

The memorial service to honor Edward’s life will be held at James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, with the date and time to be determined based on the family’s convenience. The interment will take place at St. John No. 2 Cemetery in Pottsville, provided it is convenient for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be sent to the St. John Memorial Fund, located at 913 Mahantongo Street, Pottsville, Pennsylvania 17901.
