The Jump Festa ’24 event took the anime world by storm on Sunday, revealing that the television anime adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man manga will expand its horizons with an upcoming anime film. This new project will specifically adapt the “Reze-hen” (Reze Arc) of the manga, introducing audiences to a cinematic journey into the intricate narrative. Reina Ueda is set to play the pivotal role of Reze in the film, titled “Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc.”

Chainsaw Man’s anime series made its debut on TV Tokyo and affiliated channels, along with a release on Amazon Prime Video in October 2022. Crunchyroll, the global anime streaming giant, has been bringing the series to audiences in over 200 countries and territories. The anime’s recognition extends beyond its viewership, earning a nomination for The Saturn Awards in the esteemed Best Animated Television Series or Special category.

The narrative of Chainsaw Man follows Denji, a teenager navigating life alongside his Chainsaw Devil companion, Pochita. Burdened by his father’s debts, Denji ekes out a challenging existence by harvesting devil corpses with Pochita. A shocking betrayal leads to Denji’s demise, but a contract with Pochita brings him back as “Chainsaw Man”—a figure with a devil’s heart.

Tatsuki Fujimoto, acclaimed for his previous work on Fire Punch, introduced Chainsaw Man to Weekly Shonen Jump readers in December 2018, concluding its “first part,” the “Kōan” (Public Safety) arc, in December 2020. The manga’s second part, “Gakkō-hen” (School Arc), premiered on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ service in July 2022. The manga’s excellence has been acknowledged with the Best Manga award at The Harvey Awards for three consecutive years.
