According to authorities, a woman who was at the center of a love triangle in Brooklyn was shot in the head by her jealous ex-partner during a confrontation. The gunman also injured his romantic rival during the incident. The woman, identified as Jasmine Figueroa, passed away at Kings County Hospital later that day at 5:30 pm. The shooting occurred in the early morning on Greene Avenue near Marcus Garvey Boulevard in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
The father of four daughters belonging to Figueroa, a man aged 50 and identified as the shooter, committed suicide on his own doorstep by firing a bullet into his head. Tragically, this occurred on his very own birthday. Just prior to this devastating act, he gravely injured Figueroa and a 44-year-old man, who is currently recuperating from injuries to his abdomen and leg at Kings County.
According to Tymel Walker, a 35-year-old nephew of the victim, the incident was the result of a love triangle that had overwhelmed the victim. The victim and the perpetrator had been close friends since childhood, but both had fallen in love with the same woman, who was indecisive and kept alternating between the two men. A neighbor who was awakened by the loud argument witnessed the tragic event unfold as the victims were getting into a black SUV.
The woman, who preferred not to disclose her identity, recounted her experience of waking up to the sound of shouting and two shots fired. According to her, a towering man was in a heated exchange with a younger woman.
According to the witness, the perpetrator shot the younger individual while he was inside his GMC Yukon. Following the shooting, the perpetrator, Figueroa, then began to negotiate with the victim’s companion for her own life by demanding the keys to their vehicle. Despite her attempts to plead with him, Figueroa remained indifferent to her pleas and insisted on taking the keys. He even took a few steps back before shooting her, demonstrating his cold-heartedness.
According to a witness, the perpetrator fired a shot at the victim’s leg, followed by another. Upon being struck, the victim immediately reacted by doubling over and clutching her thigh before finally collapsing to the ground.
After a brief lull in the gunfire, the witness believed that the violent attack had ceased. Regrettably, her optimism was short-lived as the perpetrator heartlessly shot his victim in the head. The onlooker observed that the assailant showed no emotion while carrying out this heinous act. He didn’t flee the scene in haste, but rather, sauntered across the street before taking his own life.
Walker, a driver for a towing company, shared that his uncle used to work in construction. On their block, he was a loyal and dependable figure, often looked up to as an older brother by many men. Although his uncle worked for him, Walker admits he wasn’t there for him during his most trying moments. While his uncle’s actions were undoubtedly wrong, Walker acknowledges that his situation is a testament to something larger. He hopes that others learn from it, just as he has.
According to Walker, the shooter had four daughters with the woman he fired upon. The nephew of the shooter stated that his uncle was a loving father and cared deeply for his children. The nephew also expressed that the family is devastated by the tragedy, and this marks the first instance of suicide within their family.
